This museum is dedicated to the battle of Neretva (January - April 1943). This battle was part of the German anti-partisan operation 'Weiss 3'.
The battle took place near the town of Jablanica, along the banks of the Neretva river. German troops pushed Tito's partisans here in a corner, but Tito managed to outdo the Germans with a deception. He ordered to blow up all the bridges across the river to give the Germans the idea of a 'last stand', but he also ordered his sappeurs ro repair one bridge in secret. Many partisans were saved by this deception and crossed the river. Despite heavy partisan losses, the Axis failed to achieve their strategic goals.
