War Memorial IJsselmonde

War Memorial IJsselmonde is designed by P.B. van den Eynde and was placed at the Bovenstraat in Rotterdam on 4 May 1949. In 1967 the monument was placed to the corner of the Cranendonckroad/Kasteelweg. During the reconstruction of the Kasteelplein and the Kasteelweg the memorial was moved again. Since 2009 it's erected right in front of the church on the Kasteelweg.

The Memorial is a women putting her hand down pointing at a subject. The righthand is raised and has a bird, that escapes to freedom.
On the pillar of the monument stands the text '1940-1945'. On the leftblock stands:
'DEVOTE THE DEEPEST
OF YOUR REMEMBRANCE'.

And on the right block stands:
'FOR THOSE WHO GAVE
EVERYTHING FOR YOUR FREEDOM'

In 2003 two marble plaques are added to the memorial, one for the casualties of the second world war and one for the casualties of the war in The Dutch East Indies.
