Commissioned by the municipality of Amsterdam is the memorial "The Dokwerker", which recalls the February-strike of 1941 (25 and 26 February) designed by Mari Andriessen. In December 1952 it was unveiled by Queen Juliana at the Waterlooplein. In 1970 it was moved and since this time the monument is situated on the Jonas Daniel Meijerplein.
Today it is the place for the yearly commemoration of the February-strike on February 25. There are also regularly organized demonstrations against racism.
