On 26 September 1944, the US B-24 Liberator crashed at this site. The aircraft was on its way back from a mission over Hamm where two engines had failed due to German anti-aircraft fire. When the third engine also failed, the crew decided to abandon the plane. Two crew members did not survive the crash, five others were captured and four managed to escape with the help of the resistance.
