Memorial Commando-Raid 28 September 1941

Luc-sur-Mer is a small village situated on the border of "Juno" and "Sword". The memorial at the beach commemorates the first allied commando attack on Normandy on 28 september 1941.

In the night from 27 to 28 september 1941 the attack was carried out by 5th Troop of No 1 Commando led by Captain Davies. According to the plans they had to land near Courseulles to reach St Aubin, but on reflection they are landed at Luc-sur-Mer. During the landing the troops came under German machine gun fire. Due to the fierce resistance they had to cease their attack and stood down. With this action, two soldiers were missing and one was wounded.

The exact location of this attack is not entirely known, but it was at least in the vicinity of the memorial.
The memorial remembers also the liberation of Luc-sur-Mer on 6/7 June 1944.
