82nd Airborne Division Memorials

The monument stands right next to the Iron Mike memorial. It consists of 4 different plaques, which are dedicated to the different units of the 82nd Airborne Division who were involved on June 6 1944, in the fighting around Merderet, at the height of La Fiere.

From the left to the right, the plaques are:

Picture 2:
In honor of the 144 valiant men of Company A, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment whose exact D-Day mission was to seize La Fiere bridge and prevent the enemy crossing easterly.
Despite heavy losses, C.A stood fast. No armed enemy ever crossed this bridge.
Never forget them.

Picture 3:
325th Glider Infantry Regiment
82nd Airborne Division

This plaque is in honor of the 280 brave men who were killed in action during the invasion of Normandy and also in honor of the 714 other men who were wounded, injured or missing during this campaign.

80th Airborne
Antiaircraft Battalion
82nd Airborne Div. U.S. Army

Before dawn of D-Day the 80th AA BN landed by glider near Ste Mere Eglise. Thus began the long journey to liberate the countries of Europe and to ensure their freedom.
This plaque is dedicated in memory of our friends who shed their blood and sacrificed their lives during this mighty endeavor
May they never be forgotten.

508th Parachute Infantry Regiment
82nd Airborne Division

This plaque is in honor of the 336 brave men who were killed in action during the invasion of Normandy and also in honor of the 825 other men who were wounded, injured or missing during this campaign.
