Ouvrage Bois du Four was planned as an artillery ouvrage consisting of two entrance blocks, four artillery blocks and two infantry casemates. Only this block was finally built. The garrison consists of 4 off., 20 under-off. and 120 men of the 139th RIF.
In 1940 the ouvrage barely took part in the fighting and capitulated on 27 June. During the Lorraine campaign in 1944, the fort played a minor role.
