On 30 April 1944, partisans attacked the German garrison in Rupe and German trucks near Lipa. In retaliation, German soldiers and Italian fascists burned Lipa down and killed 263 residents.
The local community have kept two buildings in their original condition as memorial. A plaque in memory of this incident can be found on one of the burned down buildings.
