Preveli Monastery Foinikas

During the Second World War, the Preveli Monastery was hiding place for New-Zealanders, British and Greek troops. The monks helped with the escapes of the allied troops. The first big operation succeeded but the 2nd operation didn't succeeded because the German know about the operation. The abbot could escape but for the monastery was it too late: a part of the monastery were destroyed by the Germans.

In the monastery are some memorials.
