Heavy Machine Gun V.I.S. Casemat "Hollands Diep I" Mariapolder

This heavy machine gun casemat "Hollandsch Diep I"is constructed in V.I.S. as part of the Stronghold Holland.

Hollands Diep I, is located in the Hoekse Waard at the Hollands Diep / Dordtse Kil junction. It had a field of fire over the water and could also fire on the road bridge. The casemate was armed with a heavy Schwarzlose machine gun.

During the Cold War, a tower was build on the casemat to look out for enemy planes and to find out where nuclear explosions occurred during an attack.
