This memorial commemorates the Soviet soldiers of the 4th Ukrainian Front who fell during the liberation of Košice in January 1945.
The construction of this monument started on April 14, 1945 and was completed on July 1, 1945. The monument also symbolically commemorates the 14 soldiers who died nearby and were buried here in a temporary grave. They were later transferred to the cemetery where their other comrades are buried.
