Memorial Anne Frank Merwedeplein Amsterdam

The 'Anne Frank' monument in Amsterdam was erected in memory of the 15-year-old Jewish girl Anne Frank who died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during World War II. From 1933 to 1942 she lived with her family on Merwedeplein in the Rivierenbuurt in Amsterdam. In the park where her bronze effigy is placed, there are countless footsteps of her. The statue also recalls the thirteen thousand Jewish neighbors who did not survive the war.

In 2004, bookseller Gert-Jan Jimmink submitted a citizens' initiative with a large number of statements of support to the Amsterdam ZuiderAmstel district council.
The statue, designed by Jet Schepp, was unveiled on July 9, 2005 by Mayor Job Cohen.
