Commonwealth War Graves Normée

At the Cemetery in Normee are five Commonwealth war graves. These are the graves of F/O J.F.Ineson, P/O L.C.Margetts, P/O H.F.MacKenzie, Sgt H.Warren and Sgt J.Wilkinson. On May 3, 1944 at 2152 departed from the airbase Bardney, the Lancaster LL787 with a bombing mission on a German military base in Mailly le Camp, France. The plane was over France shot by a German night-fighter and crashed into Normee. Of the seven crew members, five didn't survive the crash, one crew member (the New Zealander F/O T.L.M.Porteous) was taken prisoner of war and another crew member (the British Sgt H.S.Chappell) managed to get into hiding with help of the French Resistance.
