On the Municipal Cemetery in Ouroux-sur-Saone is one Commonwealth war grave from World War II. This is the grave of Flight Lieutenant (F/L) Anthony John Rippon. On August 25, 1944 left from Lasham airfield in England, the Mosquito NS 952 of the R.A.F. 107 Squadron Tactical Air Force Command with the mission to a tactical bombing of a German ammunition train in the station of Saint-Rémy. The aircraft was hit over France by an FLAK anti aircraft gun and crashed down at 19.00 in the woods near Ouroux-sur-Saone. In the crash, the pilot A.J. Rippon was killed, from the title and the date on his tomb can be found that he was not immediately deceased. Presumably he died one day later from his injuries. Another crew member, F/S Terence Ridout survived the crash and was helped by the French Resistance to evade.
The grave has a private headstone.
