RAF Alconbury Remnants

RAF Alconbury was built in 1938 and was used by RAF Bomber Command between 1939 and 1941. In 1942 the airport was transferred to the USAAF 8th Air Force and was the home of heavy B-24 Liberators and Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers. After the war the airfield closed for a few years and was later in 1951 again put into use by the Americans, who have used it for many years. Currently, the airport is used as a business area.

The remains from World War II that still can be found are the contol tower, some T2 hangars and several other buildings.

RAF Alconbury was also known as USAAF Station 102.
