This cemetery was founded in the First World War and served as a resting place for prisoners of war of the POW camp Meschede. At present there are only Russian and Polish casualties as the French and Belgian victims were repatriated to their homeland after the wars. In 1964, 121 unknown Russian war dead from World War II were reburied here. They came from several surrounding municipalities. A short time later the cemetery a complete reorganized and some new monuments were erected, including a monument from Russia. Today, this is the final resting place for 287 Russian and Polish casualties from both wars. The wrought iron gate with the sandstone walls were made by French prisoners of war, a French text on the wall and a French monument in the cemetery commemorate the French victims that were buried here in that time.
