At the General Cemetery in Vavincourt are six commonwealth war graves from World War II. These are the graves of Sgt G. Nicholls, Sgt J.M. Jefferies, Sgt A.Jeffreys, P/O I.G.A. Faulk, Sgt G.H.Kitchen and Sgt R.I.Robb. On December 21, 1942 at 1738 departs from the airbase Elsham Wolds, the Lancaster W4820 with the mission a raid over the city of Munich in Germany. The aircraft was shot down over France by a German night-fighter and crashed in Vavincourt. In the crash, six crew members were killed, they are all buried in this cemetery. One crew member survived the crash, he managed to bale out but was later taken prisoner of war.
