This memorial has been erected in memory of the soldiers from the British 6th Airborne Division who died during the Battle of Bréville-les-Monts (12-13 June 1944).

IN MEMORY OF THE INHABITANTS OF BREVILLE
WHO DIED IN 1944 AND ALSO TO THE MEN OF THE
12TH YORKSHIRE PARACHUTE BATTALION, THE
12TH BATTALION THE DEVONSHIRE REGIMENT AND
OTHER DETACHMENTS WHO ON THE EVENING OF
12 JUNE 1944 ASSAULTED BREVILLE THROUGH THE
1st COMMANDO BRIGADE POSITIONS FROM THE
DIRECTION OF AMFREVILLE AND DROVE OUT THE
GERMAN FORCE
162 MEN OF THE DIVISION DIED. THEY LIE IN THE
RANVILLE MILITARY CEMETERY
