Ruins Anhalter Railway Station

This was once the largest terminus station of Europe, 170 metres long, 62 metres wide and a height of 34 metres. It was destroyed during an air-raid on 3 February 1945.

The Anhalter Bahnhof station was one of the three stations where a total of 55,000 Berlin Jews were deported.

From this station, a total of 9600 Jews were deported, with 116 trains and in groups of 50 or 100 people. Unlike the other deportations that took place mostly in freight trains the Jews here were deported with normal passenger coaches, which were linked with passenger trains travelling normally.

All deportations went to Theresienstadt that functioned as a way station en route to the extermination camps.

Near the ruins of the station is a small memorial with information.
