On 23 locations in Cologne marks the bronze tekst "Mai 1940 – 1000 Roma und Sinti" the trail which 1500 gypsies had to take, from 16 May 1940 on when 1000 were deported, from the prisoncamp in Köln-Bickendorf to Köln-Deutz Station, where they were transported to extermination camps.
Among others, the text is located in front of the Cathedral and at the NS-Documentation Centre. They are designed by Gunter Demnig, who also designed the well-known Stolpersteine.
