The Roman Catholic Cemetery in Eijsden contains three War Graves of victims of World War II. These victims were members of the resistance. They were imprisoned in prisons in the Netherlands and transferred to Fort Rhijnauwen in Utrecht on the day before their execution. On October 9th, 1943, they were executed here.
On the location where the execution site was, a monument was erected in the presence of the Countess de Liedekerke de Lichervelde and the wife of Nic Erkens, Bertha Erkens, on after the war. See photo 4.

The monument at Rijnhauwen also commemorates other members of the resistance group or related resistance groups.
ERKENS Nic ,age 49, is buried on the military field of honor of the cemetery 'Robertson' in Liège.
GOFFIN Jules age 46, docter, is begraven te Voeren.
Father Hugo (JACOBS Karel) age 42, is buried in the abbey church of Val-Dieu.
Father Stephanus (MÚHREN Piet) age 34, is buried in the abbey church of Val-Dieu.
