The monument in the city wall reminds Maastricht residents of a wild boar hunt in Villapark on 21 October 1947. This monument ambiguously refers to the May days of 1940 when the Germans invaded the Netherlands.
After liberation, as a result of clearing ammunition depots in the German border region, live wildlife was set adrift in the border forests. Numerous animals migrated through southern Limburg. On 21 October 1947, there was a wild boar hunt in the Villapark in Maastricht. Six wild boars were shot at the foot of the city wall near the Hertenkamp. Maastricht's mayor and aldermen decided to record this on a monument.
The monument was unveiled on 31 October 1947 and was created by Charel Vos.
