Stumbling Stones Norderstraße 27-29

These small brass plaques (Stolpersteine or Stumbling Stones), which were laid on 23-8-2004 in memory of:
Emil Löwenthal
(born 1857, deported to Theresienstadt on 13-1-1943 and died there on 16-2-1943)
Johanna Löwenthal
(born 1876, deported to Therasienstadt on 13-1-1943; she was deported from there to Auschwitz with her daughter Elly on 16-4-1944. Nothing further is known about her exact fate there)

On 10-7-2023, two stones were added for their daughter and son-in-law:
Erna Falk
(born 1888, deported to Theresienstadt in 1942; she was deported from there to Auschwitz with her mother Johanna on 16-4-1944. Nothing else is known about her exact fate there)
Hermann Falk
(born 1876, deported to Theresienstadt in 1942 and died there on 13-2-1942.

"Stolpersteine" is an art project in Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism).
Stolpersteine (Stumbling Stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the pavement in front of the last voluntary residence or sometimes the hiding address of (mostly Jewish) victims murdered by the Nazis. Each plaque is stamped with the victim's name, date of birth, and place (often a Concentration Camp) and date of death. In this way, Gunter Demnig gives an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He quotes the Talmud: "A person is forgotten only when his or her name is forgotten."

Borne was the first place in the Netherlands where Stolpersteine were laid. This happened on 29-11-2007
