Stumbling Stones Eifelstraße 27

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Gertrud Adler (born 1901, murdered in Riga)
Emmy Berlin (born 1885, murdered in Chelmno in May 1942)
Helene Berlin (born 1884, murdered in Chelmno in May 1942)
Emilie Katz (born 1876, murdered in Lodz on 14-3-1943)
Sally Katz (born 1876, murdered in Lodz on 15-8-1942)
Julie Nussbaum (born 1875, murdered in Chelmno in May 1942)
Mathilde Nussbaum (born 1877, murdered in Chelmno in May 1942)
Josef Nussbaum-Kappel (born 1881, murdered in Lodz on 24-4-1942)
Maier Strauss (born 1875, murdered in Lodz on 25-4-1942)
Wally Strauss (born 1880, murdered in Lodz on 31-12-1941)
Cläre Weinberg (born 1889, murdered in Chelmno in September 1942)

The small copper plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
