Stumbling Stones Friedrichstraße 40

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Martin Herz (born 1899, faith unknown)
Rosa Herz (born 1892, murdered in Chelmno in September 1942)
Betty Lucas (born 1888, murdered in Chelmno in May 1942)
Alfred Moses (born 1906, murdered in Riga)
Klara Moses (born 1905, murdered in Riga)
Reha Moses (born 1940, faith unknown)
Theres Eva Moses (born 1938, murdered in Riga)
Betty Stern (born 1889, murdered in Chelmno in May 1942)
Dr. Moses Stern (born 1881, murdered in Chelmno in May 1942)
Emma Sternberg (born 1895, murdered in Riga)
Guenter Sternberg (born 1926, murdered in Stutthof on 2-5-1945)
Isidor Sternberg (born 1889, murdered in Lodz)

The small copper plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
