Darlington cemetery is home to one of the oldest crematoria in England. A memorial bearing the names recalls the 26 fallen Commonwealth servicemen cremated here in or shortly after World War II.
"HERE ARE RECORDED/ THE NAMES OF 26 MEMBERS OF HIS MAJESTY'S FORCES/ WHO DIED IN THE SERVICE/ OF THEIR COUNTRY/ 1939-1947/ AND WERE CREMATED"
The cemetery also contains a stone bearing the names of 2 servicemen killed during World War I and cremated here.
