Stumbling Stones Alte Hafenstraße 23

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Mathilde Heinemann (born 1876, murdered in Treblinka)
Amalie Wolff (born 1869, murdered in Treblinka)
Simon de Jonge (born 1874, murdered in Minsk)
Rebecka de Jonge (born 1886, murdered in Minsk)
Arno de Jonge (born 1914, murdered in Minsk)
Elise de Jonge (born 1923, murdered in Minsk)
Frieda Schirling (born 1881, murdered in Minsk)
Fränzchen Schneider (born 1904, murdered in Riga on 22-10-1942)
Max Schneider (born 1908, murdered in Stutthof)

The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
