Stumbling Stones Havelstraße 10

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Samuel Lauter (born 1868, murdered in Theresienstadt on 9-11-1942)
Helga Lauter (escaped)
Herbert Lauter (born 1907, escaped)
Martha Lauter (born 1912, escaped)
Susanna Lauter (born 1938, escaped)
Irmgard Seelig (born 1899, murdered in Auschwitz on 15-3-1943)
Erich Mathias (born 1894, murdered during transport to Trawniki)
Bella Mathias (born 1904, murdered in Trawniki in 1942)
Gerhard Mathias (born 1930, murdered during transport to Trawniki)
Horst Mathias (born 1937, murdered in Trawniki)
Ilse Mathias (born 1925, murdered during transport to Trawniki)

The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
