Stranton Cemetery in Hartlepool contains war graves of both world wars, the 1914-1918 burials being scattered in various parts of the cemetery. During the early months of the 1939-1945 War, a piece of ground was set aside by the local authorities for service war burials, which became the War Graves Plot. There are 43 Commonwealth casualties of the 1914-1918 war and 132 of the 1939-1945 war buried in this site. A Screen Wall bears 80 names of those buried in Hartlepool North Cemetery whose graves can no longer be maintained, 76 being of the 1914-1918 war and 4 of the 1939-1945 war.
