Stumbling Stones Hildastraße 57a

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Manfred Marx Bergheimer (born 1914, murdered in Auschwitz)
Johanna Cahn (born 1877, murdered in Gurs on 5-7-1943)
Sigmund Kahn (born 1876, murdered in Gurs on 1-12-1940)
Elsa Stein (born 1895, murdered in Gurs)
Peter Bruno Stern (born 1929, murdered in Auschwitz)
Bernhard Kahn (born 1871, murdered in Auschwitz)
Meta Kahn (born 1886, murdered in Auschwitz)
Paula Kahn (born 1893, murdered in Gurs)
Theodor Kahn (born 1888, murdered in Gurs)
Arthur Stern (born 1888, murdered in Auschwitz)
Thekla Stern (born 1897, murdered in Auschwitz)
Julius Strauss (born 1882, murdered in Majdanek)
Ilse Kramer (born 1905, faith unknown)

The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
