This monument is a work by artist Marius Boender from Breda. The theme he was given during the production was tolerance and freedom.
The five pedestals symbolize shelling and bombing, which will be associated with mental deprivation of freedom and the emotional violence of war.
The color difference in the pedestals forms the basis for the main idea of this work, namely 'reclaimed freedom'. The freedom of individual thought, feeling and belief.
The abstract elements on the pedestals are different, but they still form a unity. They can move under the influence of the wind, but in the wind they will each make their own movement. One element changes direction immediately due to the wind, the other only when the wind blows very hard. They illustrate the idea of freedom: 'being able to be yourself, with your own appearance, with your own thoughts and with your own faith, and to be able to live in a climate of tolerance.
