V.I.S.-Casemate Biltstraat I

This MG-pillbox on Fort De Bilt is of type V.I.S. and was built in 1936.

Fort De Bilt was used by the Germans in the Second World War for the execution of 140 people, mostly resistance fighters. Many of them were first housed in this bunker before they were shot. Texts on the walls are still visible. The bunker had a ventilation system that the prisoners had to serve by hand in order not to choke.

The bunker can only be visited when the fort is opened. Unfortunately, the opening hours are very irregular.
