Stumbling Stones Alter Markt 23

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Chaim Lecker (born 1882, murdered in Auschwitz)
Freude Lecker (born 1888, murdered in Auschwitz)
Leopold Natowitz (born 1906, murdered in Auschwitz)
Lotte Natowitz (born 1910, murdered in Auschwitz on 7-10-1942)
Mia Natowitz (born 1935, murdered in Auschwitz)
Doris Natowitz (born 1938, murdered in Auschwitz)
Miriam Natowitz (born 1940, murdered in Auschwitz)
Eisig Sender (born 1874, murdered in Auschwitz)
Freide Sender (born 1880, murdered in Auschwitz)
Alfred Sender (born 1910, murdered in Auschwitz)

The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
