In the hall of the Town Hall in Elst, this Memorial commemorates the residents from Elst to the courageous act of six American soldiers on 29-10-1944 during the Second World War.

IN THE NIGHT OF 29 OCTOBER 1944 SIX MEN OF THE 501st
PARACHUTE INF. REGT. OF THE 101st AIRBORNE DIVISION,
U.S. ARMY, CROSSED THE RIVER RHINE AT HETEREN IN TWO
RUBBER BOATS AND LANDED EAST OF RENKUM.
THEY SLIPPED THROUGH THE ENEMY LINES AND REACHED THE
HIGHWAY LEADING FROM EDE TO ARNHEM. THEY HID DURING THE
DAY. IN THE FOLLOWING NIGHT THIS PATROL CAPTURED 32
ENEMY OFFICERS AND MEN, AND TOOK THEM WITH IT ACROSS
THE RHINE TO THE AMERICAN HEADQUARTERS
