Many of the 63 Second World War Commonwealth burials at Northwood Cemetery were from the Royal Air Force station at Northolt, the premier fighter station for the defence of London and a famous Battle of Britain station. A wing of the Polish Air Force operated from Northolt at this time and 53 Polish airmen and one Czechoslovakian are also buried in the cemetery. Many of the Second World War graves will be found in the war graves plot, the rest are scattered throughout the cemetery. Northwood Cemetery also contains five graves from the First World War.
