Bullet Impact Statue Mercury FGH

During the liberation of the city of Groningen in April 1945, there is heavy fighting to expel the occupier. Traces are still visible. Also the former bank building on the Herebinnensingel 4 was damaged. Above the side entrance of the building is the image of Mercury visible. The image is wounded and missing fragments left of the chin.

At the address at the time of the occupation, the Friesch-Groningsche Hypotheekbank located. The bank, designed by the architect A.Th. of Elmpt, was built in an expressionist style with characteristics of the Art Deco style. The construction sculpture is the work of sculptor Willem Valk.
