Belgian War Graves Churchyard Bulskamp

The churchyard of Bulskamp contains the graves of civilian victims of the First and the Second World War.

Bulskamp Cemetery also contains 4 Belgian war graves, who died in the First World War.

Remi Adolf VAN MAELE : born on 15 July 1889, unmarried.
He was a soldier 2nd class 2nd company. His right arm had to be amputated for a third due to injuries. On September 30, 1918, he was hospitalized in the field hospital "l'Océan" in De Panne, where he died on October 13, 1918.

Georges BEUTEN : born on June 22, 1894, unmarried.
He was a soldier 2nd class 2nd company. He was killed in action at Passchendaele on October 4, 1918.

Lucien MEEUWS : born on April 7, 1889, he was married and a tailor by trade.
He was a soldier 2nd carabiniers. He was killed in Poelkapelle on September 28, 1918.

Marcel VANDENBERGHE : born on December 26, 1896. He was a soldier 2nd class 8th company 23rd line. He was killed in action in 1917.
Marcel does not want to go to the army because he is convinced that he will die. He leaves crying. He is shot on his first day in the trenches of Kaaskerke (De Dodengang). He lies for 3 days in no man's land between the two armies shouting "mother". When two stretcher bearers try to retrieve him, all three are killed by a shell on July 8, 1917 at 11 pm.
His half-sister goes with a horse and cart to get his coffin in Diksmuide and so Marcel is the first fallen from Bulskamp who is buried in his own village "
