These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Anton Guttenberger (born 1892, murdered in Auschwitz in July 1943)
Berta Guttenberger (born 1926, murdered in Auschwitz in July 1943)
Elisabeth Guttenberger (born 1931, murdered in Auschwitz in July 1943)
Johanna Guttenberger (born 1893, murdered in Auschwitz in July 1943)
Johannes Guttenberger (born 1929, murdered in Auschwitz in July 1943)
Karl Eckstein (born 1934, murdered in Auschwitz in July 1943)
Maria Guttenberger (born 1923, murdered in Auschwitz in July 1943)
The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.
In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
