The war memorial in Borgsweer commemorates its four residents who were killed by warviolence. The four people had taken refuge in a bunker outside the village for the shelling in the area. The Allies thought it was German soldiers and shot the bunker completely flat so that the four people were killed.
The memorial also commemorates seven crew members of a downed Allied B-17F bomber of the 303rd BG (Bomb Group) on June 25, 1943 who was en route to a bombing raid on Bremen and Hamburg. The mission was hampered by bad weather and lost a total of 18 aircraft.
