Memorial Lancaster JA902 Emmeloord

A memorial cross on the westside of the Lindeweg marks the place where on 3 Janary 1944 the Lancaster JA902 of the 463 Sq crashed.

The seven crewmembers were killed. Four of them are buried on Vollenhove General Cemetery (section 3, row 4, graves 627, 628, 626 en 625), the other three (P/O J. Gage, P/O L. Symonds and F/Sgt. W. Toohey) rest in unknowns field graves at the crash site. All three are mentioned on the Runnymede Air Force Memorial in England. The bomber was stationed on Waddington aerodrome in Lincolnshire and was on a mission to Berlin.
