Commonwealth War Cemetery Artillery Wood

Artillery Wood was an area occupied by Germans and captured during the Third Battle of Ypres by the Guards division in July 1917. They started their burial grounds here which were in use until the end of the First World War: there were then here 141 graves.

After the end of the war, soldiers who were found on the battlefield of Pilkim Ridge were also buried here.

In addition, a number of smaller cemeteries were closed, and the soldiers were transferred:
• Boesinghe Chateau Grounds Cemetery: 19 soldiers of the Guards Division.
• Brissein House Cemetery, Bixschoote: French cemetery where 22 English soldiers were also buried.
• Captain's Farm cemetery, Langemark: 63 English soldiers mainly from the Guards and the 29th Division.

A total of 1307 soldiers are buried here, of whom 506 are unknown.
