Memorial Cote 304

Cote (hill) 304 was one of the sites of fierce fightings during the Battle of Verdun in 1916. This memorial commemorates the French soldiers who fell here and the units who participated in the battle.

The hill had been lowered 7 metres after 14-18 due to frequent and intense artillery shelling. It was inaugurated on 14 June 1934 by Marshal Philippe Pétain (The Hero of Verdun).

During the Battle of France, François Mitterrand, later president of the French Republic and then chief sergeant of the 23rd Colonial Infantry Regiment, was wounded on Hill 304.
