This memorial commemorates the soldiers of the French 69th Division, who fell on the "Mort Homme" hill in 1916. About 10.000 French soldiers were killed in the fighting for this hill.
The monument depicts a skeleton emerging from his shroud. On one arm he carries a flag, symbolising the nation for which he sacrificed himself, and on the other he waves the torch of victory. On the base of the monument, the inscription "They did not pass" recalls the resistance of the French soldiers. This monument is described as one of the most impressive of the Great War. It was unveiled in 1922.
