Bayernwald Wijtschate
Site with various reconstructed trenches, bunkers and listening shafts. These were part of a complex built by the Germans between 1914 and the summer of 1917. Adolf Hitler fought here with his regiment during the period 16/17 November 1914. Hitler, together with three other dispatch runners, received the Iron Cross for bringing safety from their commander, Oberstleutnant Engelhardt.
Access only with tickets available from the Tourist Office Heuvelland (Kemmel).
