French Chapel of Oflag VI A

The POW camp was approximately 10 hectares in size and was the last camp in Soest, which was built by the nazis.
On 15 November 1939 was the construction of the camp not yet complete, but it was already named as Stalag VI E.
On May 14, 1940, the first Dutch war prisoners transferred to the camp. Shortly afterwards were also Belgian and French prisoners of war imprisoned in the camp. Eventually got the camp on June 5, 1940 the name Oflag VI A.

The camp was finally liberated on 6 april 1945. After the liberation the camp was used as a shelter for former refugees from the Third Reich. Until 1994, the complex serves as Belgian barracks.

The French Chapel, made by prisoners of war, is located at the attic of the museum.
