Next to the entrance of the former National Archives in Groningen is a plaque on the wall. On this plaque is the Meaple Leaf shown and the text:

Thank you Canada
In this former National Archives building was during heavy fighting on April 16, 1945 the German occupiers forced to surrender by the Canadian Army.

In the stairwell of the former National Archives in Groningen is a plaque on the wall as a reminder of the surrender by the German occupiers of Groningen.

On this plaque is the text:

Nunouam Retrorsum
(No one will force us to retreat)
On April 16, 1945 during heavy fighting in the
center of the city went Lt.Col.J.A.Dextraze from
Canadian Regiment Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal
risking their lives in this building
and forced the German Garrison Commander to
surrender. He was accompanied by the
Dutchman WLT. van Workum, segeant-interpreter
service of the Canadian Army. This action led
terminating the fighting in the city
Groningen.
