Memorial de Rebecq - Memorial Lancaster JA712

During the night of 27 and 28 May 1944, Lancaster JA712 BQ-H was on its way to bombard the marshaling yards of Rothe-Erde, near Aachen. The Lancaster crashed near Rebecq.

The following crew died in the crash:
- Sergeant Kenneth De Lengerke
- Pilot Officer Elvin Purney
- Sergeant John Sheahan
- Pilot Officer Thomas Flanagan
- Sergeant Peter King
They were all buried in Brussels.

Bomb Aimer Elie Molnar escaped the plane with his chute and was rescued and hidden by the Belgian resistance. Sergeant David Yardley was injured in the crash,removed from the wreck and brought to the hospital in Rebecq. There he was arrested by the Germans and taken as prisoner of war.
