Resistance Monument Heukersbosje Zeijerveen

This memorial commemorates the resistance fighters Roel Oosting and Albert Bijlsma, who were shot on this location on 18 September 1944.

Roel Oosting from Westdorp was a member of the Dutch resistance. He provided people in hiding in the Assen area with ration cards and food. When working in Assen was becoming too dangerous for him, he had already been arrested, he would swap places with Albert Bijlsma from Doetinchem. Both men were arrested in Assen. Oosting, who was hiding on the Steendijk with the Taatgen family said in the interrogation that he lived in the woods near Norg. When he could not identify the place both men were shot by members of the Sicherheitsdienst in the "Heukersbosje"-forest.
