Prison Memorial Bautzen

In the building of the former Stasi prison Bautzen II nowadays a memorial centre (Gedenkstätte) can be found. This place is meant to remember the victims of both Bautzen prisons.

During the period of the Third Reich, the Soviet occupation and the SED dictatorship political opponents were kept here under inhuman circumstances.

The exhibition shows how former prisoners had to live here under inhuman circumstances and how they had to suffer. Nowadays you can visit the whole building, including the (solitary) cells.
