Memorial 740th Tank Battalion U.S. Army

The text on the memorial:
In memory of

The citizens of Neufchâteau and Mortroux, who took into their homes and hearts the young men of the 740th Tank Battalion U.S. Army in November and December, 1944 and to the members of the battalion who gave their lives in the battle of the Ardennes, the Rineland and Central Europe.
Campaigns from December 19, 1944 to May 8, 1945 under command of
LT. Col. George K. Rubel
May they never be forgotten

The monument is made of Belgian bluestone and black granite. The names on the black stone are the 41 members of the Battalion killed during the war. The names on the bluestone are the Battalion members who contributed to cover the cost of the monument. The town and citizens of Neufchâteau contributed the land and its ongoing upkeep. The monument was erected and dedicated by the Battalion Members in 1999. Over 100 veterans and family members were in attendance.
The monument was designed and the words were written by Harry F Miller, Headquarters Co. of the 740th Tank Battalion.
